Acres is a visual Markdown notes app for people who want to organize ideas without giving up ownership of their files. It gives you an infinite canvas where notes appear as cards in a user-owned folder. You can arrange cards spatially, connect related ideas, build mindmaps, and group work into sections. Tags and properties help you find and structure information as a collection grows.
The app is designed for research, writing, and knowledge work. A writer can spread sources and draft fragments across the canvas, then connect them into a clearer outline. Someone investigating a topic can keep notes close to the relationships they represent. Your notes remain Markdown files in your own folder, so the workspace is local first and can fit into an existing file-based workflow.
Acres also includes built-in AI. For users who work with coding agents, the packaged desktop app provides an MCP server so compatible clients can work with notes. Agent edits are reviewable, and undo history helps you inspect changes. The separate CLI documented for developers is available from the source checkout; it is not bundled as a command in the desktop download.
Acres is available for macOS and Windows. You can try the desktop app for 14 days. The early-adopter license is $59 as a one-time purchase, and after the trial the app becomes read-only until a license is purchased. Optional cloud services are priced separately.
