Launch Image Size Checker

Drop in one image and see its pixel size, aspect ratio, and file size. The check runs in your browser and compares the file with Product Hunt, LinkedIn, and EarlyHunt. Nothing is uploaded.

Sizes this checker uses

External rules were read from the official pages linked below on 18 October 2026. File-size limits use 1024×1024 bytes per MB, the same unit as the EarlyHunt submit form. Pass means the file meets that surface's verified rule. Warn means it will likely be cropped or miss a recommendation. Fail means a stated limit is missed.

Why image sizes matter at launch

Launch images fail quietly. The file looks fine on your laptop, then a directory or a link preview cuts off the product name, the logo, or the screenshot. Product Hunt places the thumbnail in a square and the gallery in a wide frame. LinkedIn's link share wants a wide image at a stated minimum, and anything smaller is treated as a thumbnail. EarlyHunt's submit form shows the logo in a square and the preview image in a 16:9 frame, and it blocks the upload when the file is too large or the wrong type. Checking the export before launch day is faster than discovering the crop after the post is live.

This checker does one job. Drop in an image or pick a file. It reads the pixel width and height, the aspect ratio, and the file size, then compares that file with the surfaces below. The read happens in the browser with the File API. The image is not uploaded, not stored, and not sent to an API. The tool can only judge the file you gave it. It cannot tell you whether a GIF's first frame is readable, or whether a social network can fetch an image from a URL.

Quick checklist

  1. Export a square logo. Product Hunt recommends 240×240 for the thumbnail, and thumbnail images, GIF or not, have to be under 3 MB. EarlyHunt recommends a square logo as well, accepts JPEG, PNG, or WebP, and rejects a logo over 1 MB. A square PNG at 240×240 or larger that stays under 1 MB can serve both.
  2. Do not reuse that logo as a gallery image. Product Hunt recommends 1270×760 for gallery images, and the gallery stays hidden until the post has at least two images. Check every gallery file, not just the first.
  3. Export a separate EarlyHunt preview. The submit form calls it a preview image, shows it in a 16:9 frame, and allows up to 2 MB of JPEG, PNG, or WebP. A 16:9 screenshot will not match 1270×760, and a 1270×760 gallery image will not match 16:9. Make both files.
  4. If the same image will be the picture on a LinkedIn link share, start from at least 1200×627 pixels, keep it at or under 5 MB, and stay near 1.91:1. LinkedIn states 1200×627 as the minimum for that sharing module and 1.91:1 as the recommended ratio. A Product Hunt thumbnail is too small for this row, even when it passes the thumbnail check.
  5. Keep text, faces, and buttons away from the edges. These frames are not the same shape, so the edge of the canvas is the first thing a crop removes. Run the exported file through the checker, not the design file. Compression changes the byte size, and some export settings change the pixel size.

Facebook Open Graph and the X summary_large_image card are not in the list. On 18 October 2026, Meta's sharing documentation returned an error instead of image rules, and the Open Graph protocol describes og:image without a recommended pixel size. X's current developer docs no longer include the summary_large_image size page; the old cards URL redirects to the docs home. A size that cannot be read from an official page is left out. Recheck those docs before you lock a social card.

When the rows you care about pass, submit the logo and preview on EarlyHunt. Premium is $19 once and includes Launch Kit graphics. Free launches stay open. If you are still choosing other directories, use the Launch Directory Finder.

Launch image questions

Does the checker upload my image?

No. The file is read in your browser to measure width, height, and bytes. EarlyHunt does not receive the image, and this page does not call an upload API.

What Product Hunt sizes are checked?

The thumbnail should be square. Product Hunt recommends 240×240, and thumbnail images need to be under 3 MB. Gallery images are recommended at 1270×760. The gallery needs two or more images before it is visible, so run each file through the checker.

What does EarlyHunt require for a logo and a screenshot?

The submit form recommends a square logo and a wide 16:9 preview image. Logos must be JPEG, PNG, or WebP and at most 1 MB. Preview images use the same file types and at most 2 MB. The form does not enforce a pixel minimum, so this checker does not invent one.

Why are Open Graph and X not listed?

On 18 October 2026, Meta's sharing documentation returned an error instead of image rules, and the Open Graph protocol does not specify a recommended pixel size. X's current developer docs no longer include the summary_large_image size page. Surfaces without a verified official spec are left out.

What should I fix first when a row says warn or fail?

Fail means a stated limit: the file is over the size cap, the type is not accepted, or the image is below LinkedIn's minimum pixels. Warn means the image will likely be cropped or fall short of a recommendation. Crop to the ratio in the tip, export at the recommended pixel size, and check the new file.
