Billr is open-source invoicing built for small businesses and the AI agents that work for them. Instead of bolting a chatbot onto an old billing app, Billr ships with a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server built in, so your coding agent can run your invoicing the same way you would.
Connect Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any other MCP client over OAuth 2.1 using the streamable HTTP endpoint at mcp.billr.cc. Once connected, your agent gets access to 53 tools that cover the full billing workflow: logging billable time against clients and projects, tracking expenses and receipts, drafting estimates, turning estimates into invoices, and sending those invoices to customers when you approve them.
Agents work with bookkeeper-level permissions, which means they can prepare and organize financial records without getting unchecked control of your account. Every action an agent takes is badged and shown in a single dashboard, so you always know what was done by a person and what was done by an agent, and you can review drafts before anything goes out.
Who is it for? Freelancers, consultants, agencies and small studios who already live inside an AI coding tool and want their admin work handled there too.
Pricing: the hosted version at billr.cc costs $19 per month with a 14-day free trial and no platform fee on payments. Prefer to run it yourself? The full source is on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license, and you can self-host it for free.
